Damaging winds possible Sunday

By Mark Pare

The winter weather is expected to come back to Waterloo Region and the surrounding area this weekend.

Hold on to your hats, with a special weather statement in effect for the area calling for “damaging winds” likely to develop Sunday afternoon, with wind gusts between 90-110 km/h.

Areas near the Great Lakes are likely to get the brunt of the wind.

And the national weather authority warns damage to buildings like roof shingles and windows might occur, along with power outages.

On top of that, the area is likely to see some flurries and blowing snow develop Sunday afternoon too, with local snowfall amounts in the range of 2-5 cm by Monday morning.

With the wind and fresh snow, they say whiteout conditions are possible in some areas, making travel hazardous.
