SUN LIFE FINANCIAL WATERLOO BUSKER CARNIVAL

On Thursday, August 23rd, Barenaked Ladies' co-founder Steven Page kicks off the 30th Anniversary of the Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker Carnival. It includes 10 amazing world class acts over 4 days, fireworks, and a midway filled with fun and food. This event is run solely by volunteers, and there are positions that still need to be filled. This is your chance to be involved in this amazing free event and be part of the fun!
Executive Committee Chair Randy Warren says the success of this event is based on volunteers. Even the entire executive committee is made up of volunteers, including Randy! “The openings are for people 16 and older. It's a great opportunity for a young person or adult of any age to get involved in the community, and also looks good on a resume.”
The positions that are open include: 'Carnival Ambassadors', 'Carnival set-up / Carnival Tear-Down', 'Information Tent Attendant', and 'Roving Freezie Sellers'.
It's easy to become a volunteer. Just go to the website at waterloobuskers.com, choose the heading 'Get Involved' and under that choose 'Volunteers'. A count along the right side of the page shows how many people are still needed. You pick the day(s) and time(s) you want to volunteer.
2018 is the 'Year of the Fan Favourites' for the Sun Life Financial Waterloo Busker Carnival! This year's entertainment includes juggling, magic, ventriloquism, mesmerizing, fire enhanced acrobatics, and even a gladiator show with water balloons. While the entertainment is free, the entertainers will pass a hat around. Rain or shine, all of the entertainment takes place outside.
Opening night on Thursday, August 23rd is presented by Sun Life Financial and HIP Developments. It begins at 6:15pm. HIP Developments purchased a number of ¾ guitars and ukuleles to give away that night to young people, in hopes of encouraging the next great Canadian entertainment artists. And Steven Page is donating a guitar to the Sun Life Musical Instrument Lending Library, located at the KPL Central Library. Page will also be entertaining along with Craig Northey, and cello master Kevin Fox
On Saturday evening (August 25) at 10 pm the anniversary celebration is crowned with Illuminate – a fireworks display, presented by Sun Life Global Investments. The next day, Sunday, everything begins at noon and wraps up with a Family Vaudeville Show from 5-6pm.
