Purple substance seized by WRPS contains carfentanil: Health Canada

A serious warning has been issued as a new form of a deadly opioid has appeared in Waterloo Region.
On March 22, Regional Police seized a purple substance similar to ‘Play-Doh’, and believed it may contain fentanyl.
That substance was then sent to Health Canada for further analysis, and they’re now confirming it’s actually carfentanil.
Carfentanil is odourless, tasteless, and 10,000 times more potent than morphine.
It’s the first time this form of the dangerous opioid has been detected locally.
Health officials are out with these tips to stay safe and prevent any overdose-related deaths.
IF USING SUBSTANCES:
Never use substances alone
Try a very small amount first
If you use with a friend do not use at the exact same time
Avoid mixing substances
Have naloxone ready. Know how to respond to an overdose
IF SOMEONE OVERDOSES:
Call 911
Administer naloxone if an opioid overdose is suspected
Do not give stimulants (e.g. crystal meth) as this can make the overdose
worse
Continue to assist victim until paramedics arrive
The victim should accompany paramedics to hospital
