Special weather statement, up to 25 mm of rain expected Monday

By Khalil Hassanali

The Region of Waterloo will continue to experience a wide range of weather conditions through the work week, as drivers and pedestrians continue to deal with heavy fog and wet weather throughout the day Monday.

Environment Canada has issued a special statement for the region and surrounding areas. The national weather agency is expecting between 15 and 25 mm of rain through to Tuesday morning.

Environment Canada’s Geoff Coulson says, “With this particular weather system, we’re watching closely the amount of rainfall.”

The Grand River Conservation Authority’s Cam Linwood says, “People are not generally not super aware that you can get into trouble really quickly.”

The temperature will begin to drop on Tuesday. The high for Wednesday is -5 degrees — 11 degrees less than the day before.

Linwood does note that colder temperatures help with the water levels in our region, which are currently above normal. The sub-zero readings halt the thawing of snow.
