Cambridge to get provincially run pot shop

Cambridge will be getting one of the first 40 retail stores that will be selling cannabis, when the drug is legalized in July.

Cambridge MPP, Kathryn McGarry says the LCBO will be working with the municipality, engaging with them in order to find an appropriate site.

“The LCBO has launched a website to identify those selected municipalities and once the store sites are identified, public notices will be posted at the location and also on the LCBO website.”

McGarry says there will be information on the website regarding the stores operations and how local impacts would be mitigated.

She says there will be a consultative process where the government will continue to consult with Cambridge and the public about the location of the store.

The locations for the initial stores are being guided by regional distribution of stores across the province.

She adds she suspects potential sites will be chosen rather quickly.
