A new futuristic, up to date air traffic control tower has officially opened in the centre of the Regional Airport in Breslau.
NAV Canada opened up the doors on its five-million dollar ATC on Wednesday to show off all the bells and whistle that includes a gym, kitchen, and lounge area with a flat screen TV.
Tower Supervisor Steven Boyd tells 570 NEWS that the facility is like something out of Star Trek. “It’s really great to work here. Everything is modernized, it’s new, and it’s like getting a new car and upgrading it with a back-up camera. It’s getting rave reviews for sure.”
The best part of the new tower according to Boyd is the main 360 degree workspace or the “cab.” It expands the air traffic controller’s area from the previous 24 square metres to 32. “There’s lots of room to work, and it makes sure we’re doing our jobs right.”

The new 64 ft. (19 metres) ATC replaces the old one that opened for business back in 1969. The old one is scheduled to be demolished at the beginning of October.
