Waterloo targeted in mighty storm that spread across the region

A brief but very powerful thunderstorm rolled across the region last night.
It started at 7 p.m. and lasted until almost 8 p.m.
Some areas like Cambridge and Kitchener got nothing worse than some light rain.
But Waterloo experienced heavy rain fall, flooded streets, and hail.
Yousef Mangesha with Environment Canada says there is no official measurement yet, but they estimate 50-80mm of rain. “In terms of wind, there were reports of 60 km/h.”
The lightening was so bad that it even hit a house, causing a fire.
Emergency crews were called to a home just before 8 p.m. on Rhine Fall Drive, in northwest Waterloo.
When they arrived, smoke could be seen from the roof.
Three people were inside, but managed to get outside un-injured.
Crews were able to put out the fire.
