149 people laid off at Rimowa Luggage in Cambridge

A luxury luggage and accessory manufacturer who has a massive warehouse and production plant in Cambridge has laid off 149 people.
In a statement sent to 570 NEWS, Rimowa Luggage says the lay-offs are due to the company planning for the future.
Just a year and a half ago, Rimowa hired 130 people to work at the Cambridge plant.
The company is headquartered in Cologne, Germany.

“As the Company plans for the future, it is now taking actions to ensure that all of its operational processes are run strategically and in a coordinated manner to support profitable growth. We deeply regret that this has impacted a portion of people in Cambridge. But the steps we are taking are critical to ensure that the Cambridge operations will be able to most effectively support the success of the Company into the future.”
A spokesperson says the company “does not have any additional reductions planned.”
