The King Street Grade Separation Project is set to open up to traffic today.
King between Victoria and Moore has been open to pedestrian traffic for the last month but there has been vandalism reported all along the ION route, which is causing a set back in some of the work.
Grandlinq, the company in charge of building the ION infastructure, said in a statement to 570 News, ‘vandalism has not been contained to anyone area along the route and can include theft, tagging or graffiti, removal or displacement of cones and traffic signs, and damage to completed infrastructure like stops and signals houses.’
Avril Fisken, of Grandlinq says, ‘it is a matter that we take very seriously. We are reporting each of these instances to the police, and we are working close
with them (police) to provide the information we know can help identify those people involved.’
Grandlinq had security cameras in place along the ION route, and has images of some of the individuals involved. Grandlinq has handed those images over to police.
Fisken says, ‘we just want to let people know that although we are experiencing these elevated levels, we are doing everything we can in order to bring them back to something that is more normal.’
