Cambridge Mill deals with flood damage

All across Waterloo Region this past weekend we saw flooding that reminded some people of the 1974 flood which washed through Galt’s core.

This recent flood event is seeming to be no different as multiple areas around the Waterloo Region suffered major flood damage.

Multiple road ways were closed down and some local businesses suffered damage.

The Cambridge Mill, which is owned and operated by Pearle Hospitality, had over six inches of water pour into their basement gallery room, a space generally used for wedding receptions. Both of their pumps failed while trying to clear the basement, and that’s when the fire department was called in to use their auxiliary pumps.

Matthew Opferkuch, Director of Development for Pearle Hospitality says, “We are very grateful for the assistance of the fire department, they were really terrific in terms of their man power and equipment, which really saved our bacon on Saturday.”

All of the water was successfully pumped out and the Cambridge Mill is now in the process of drying the space out.

They have brought in industrial dehumidifiers which have been running for days. Once completely dry, they will be replacing the hard wood floors, carpets and some drywall that were damaged in the flood.

All repairs should be complete by Friday and there is no dollar amount attached to the damage caused.
