The Guelph Storm have announced a new head coach and general manager.
George Burnett will take over the reins of the OHL club, joining the team as the sixth-winningest head coach in league history, amassing 636 regular season wins and five division championships in 20 years behind the bench.
Burnett comes to the Storm following a stint with the Flint Firebirds, serving as general manager for the 2016-17 season. The new Guelph hire has also served as head coach with the Edmonton Oilers (1994-95) and assistant coach with the Anaheim Ducks (1998-2000).
The head coach and general manager comes to the team with an OHL championship (1997-98 with the Storm), AHL title (1992-93 with the Cape Breton Oilers), and a pair of Gold Medals (2010 IIHF Ivan Hlinka U18 Gold and 2001 IIHF U18 World Cup Gold with Team Canada).
Burnett takes over effective immediately, with the Storm’s prospect fitness and orientation day taking place on Saturday.
