Adam’s First Oktoberfest: The Keepers of the Keg

Art Primosch and Tim Hattle are two of the most recognizable faces in the region…why? They’re Keepers of the Keg.

Primosch has been a volunteer with KW Oktoberfest for 36 years and Hattle, 19.

By the looks of it, I think they have the best jobs a volunteer can ask for. You could say they’re in a fraternity of their own.

I sat down with the both of them to know about the men behind the mallets.

Primosch has nothing but good things to say about the position, adding it’s a role that involves you to be on your game, entertaining the thousands of festers you meet throughout the year.

Hattle says he gets instant gratification every time he “spanks that spigot” (no pun intended).

They have barrels for every club, as well as a ceremonial keg which when full, can pour beer for 40 cups.

Decked out in their lederhosen and pins, the keepers take their job seriously.

They clean, sanitize, and make sure the barrels are ready for the next party…which could be at any minute.

The boys with barrels are an awesome bunch, and definitely make the Oktoberfest experience that much better. Cheers!
