The lights were back on for everyone by 5 a.m. Thursday, but it was a long night for hydro crews working to replace a hydro pole after a fire Wednesday night.
Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the lights went out for just over 4,000 customers in the Mount Hope Huron Park area of Kitchener.
The outage impacted customers on the north-end of Victoria Park, across Victoria St. through to Lancaster St., and properties around WRHN @ Midtown in the King St. W and Wellington St. N areas.
Equipment failure was listed as the cause of the outage, with a spokesperson for Enova Power confirming to CityNews Kitchener a hydro pole had caught fire.

Despite the failure, the majority of customers had their power restored just 20 minutes later.
“The fire was extinguished and all but 31 customers had power restored by 8:50 p.m.,” said Enova Communications Supervisor Kelly McMath.
“Crews worked through the night to replace the damaged pole, and power was fully restored to all affected customers by 5:00 a.m.”
CityNews Kitchener has reached out to Enova Power for more information on whether or not the cause of the fire has been determined.
