Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region is still looking for donations to build their new Haven House in Cambridge.
The new deadline to collect the remaining $2.4 million dollars is now set for September 8th.
If the money is not raised in time, Mary Zilney, CEO of Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region says it will have to turn into a mortgage which would cause them hardship and potentially impact services.
However, Zilney says she is hopeful those funds will be raised.
“If our community turns it’s mind to the necessity of this building and the services we provide. Women and children need a safe place to stay and that is our job to help them remedy their lives and move on to an abuse free lifestyle.”
The facility will serve 45 women and children in our community and will feature a commercial kitchen, expandable bedrooms along with designated program space for youth, therapy and medical care. It will also have a clinical psychologist on staff and will be the only centre of it’s kind to do so in the county.
