The dome built for LRT construction at King and Victoria in Kitchener is coming down.
The dome is expected to be completely removed by the end of April or early May.
Spokesperson for GrandLinq Avril Fisken, tells 570 News that they have completed the concrete works required for the new railway bridge.
“We will soon begin to relocate the existing train tracks and utilities onto the bridge. After we relocate the train tracks and utilities, we will begin to excavate under the new bridge and establish the new LRT rail.”
Fisken adds they are still expecting to complete the King Street underpass in Fall 2016.
“The final costs haven’t been determined yet and ongoing discussions are underway between the region and Grandlinq to determine who is responsible and what those costs are. My understanding is the region expects council will provide an update later this year.”
Construction on the heated dome started in early January and wrapped up mid February.
An early estimate put the cost of the dome around $2 million.
It was built to allow temperature-sensitive work to continue in that area.
