‘We Are Waterloo’ Portrait Project Begins

Your face could become part of a museum exhibit.
The City of Waterloo is starting a portrait project leading up to Canada’s 150th anniversary.
Called the We Are Waterloo Portrait Project, the community art project aims to showcase the diversity of people in Waterloo through self-portraits.
Local artists will be running workshops teaching anyone interested how to do self-portraits in a variety of different media.
“As part of the project, all the self-portraits will be scanned,” says Sonya Poweska, culture program specialist with the City of Waterloo.
“You get to go home with the original; we’re keeping the scan, and it will be displayed as part of our Canada 150 celebration.”
Poweska adds the portraits will go on display at the City of Waterloo Museum.
The project starts Saturday afternoon at the John M. Harper branch of the Waterloo Public Library.
Local artist Heather Franklin will be running workshops starting at 2:30pm.
