Scouts Canada commits $450,000 to “No One Left Behind” Program

Scouts Canada has almost doubled funding for their No One Left Behind program to nearly half a million dollars.
Andrew Price is the Executive Commissioner and CEO with Scouts Canada. He told 570 News about the program.
“Scouts Canada started it’s No One Left Behind program back in 2007 to mark our 100th anniversary, and the program is designed to ensure that no young Canadian that wants to take part in our program is prohibited from doing so due to financial circumstances.”
Price added that the program supports membership fees and enables young people to have access to equipment for camp and support their participation in the Scouts’ activities.
He said they believe that the Scouting program offers a unique opportunity to Canadian youth.
“It gives them a number of skills and opportunities, and along the way they develop the capability that prepares them to be successful in their community and in their life. We believe that because of that– and because our mission is aligned with that– that all young Canadians should have this opportunity and shouldn’t have a financial barrier in the way.”
Price added that The Battlefields Council– which includes Waterloo Region– has received 326 applications for the program to-date for the current Scouting year.
“We’ve gotten a lot of responses from Waterloo Region already. The program at large across the country supports over 2,000 youth each and every year. We’re looking to expand not only the number of youth that we support, but also the extent in which we support them and their families.”
