Another successful year for the Waterloo Regional Police Firearms Amnesty Program.
Over the month of November, 109 firearms and replica firearms were collected.
This is down from last year, which was the first year for the initiative.
However, Sergeant Trevor Podger says the collection was still a success.
“Although the numbers were significantly less, we believe that the program was still a great success and are happy with the results…we would like to thank the members of the community who chose to participate it in and in doing so made the community safer.”
He adds 57 long guns, 11 hand guns, 42 replica and pellet guns, 2,300 rounds of ammunition, prohibited weapons and military ordnance were also collected.
Although the program is over, police say people can still call them anytime to collect unwanted firearms. They can call (519) 653-7700 and are reminded not to bring any weapons into a police station.
