Rain keeps construction crews on stand-by

Road construction sites are without workers today as they take cover from the big rainfall.
And the road back to work could take awhile.
Chris Speer, the Manager of Engineering Construction with the City of Kitchener says the rain could set road construction crews back two or three days. He says in summer the delay is usually a day.
He adds it also depends on the condition of the site. Speer says crews are able to get back to work sooner onto the sites that are built on sand and gravel as they are free draining.
Speer says they knew the rain was coming so they cleared the catch basins from all construction sites and checked erosion and sedimentation controls. Right now the City of Kitchener has up to 15 road projects on the go, outside of LRT construction.
He adds if you are driving or live around those site be patient and drive slowly.
