Elementary teachers in work to rule could have pay docked

Premier Kathleen Wynne says school boards may be able to dock the pay of elementary teachers who withdraw from extracurricular activities.
She says the school boards requested consent from the government to do so, but Wynne says she won’t give that permission until Nov. 1.
At that point the unions in addition to the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, some support workers have been engaged in work to rule campaigns would have five days’ notice that their pay could be docked.
Wynne says she hopes deals can be reached by then because eight days is a long time in the world of bargaining.
Sam Hammond, president of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, says his members won’t respond to threats.
He also says that although there are now bargaining dates with the province, his members won’t yet be backing down from withdrawing extracurriculars next week.
