Region votes to keep five child care centres open

A victory for supporters of the five child care centres run by Waterloo Region.

Regional council has voted in favour of keeping the centres open, rejecting a recommendation to close them.

That recommendation, in a report from KPMG, suggested the region could save over $2-million dollars by closing them and then funnel those savings into creating more subsidized child care spaces.

Opponents of the recommendations argued the regional centres provided the highest quality care.
