Major work on Margaret Ave Bridge this weekend

The redevelopment of the Margaret Ave Bridge will hit a milestone this weekend.
Major work, including installing 14 concrete beams will start Saturday night into Sunday morning. The work was expected to start Friday but thunderstorms in the forecast delayed that.
Project Manager, Chris Spere tells 570 News that this will be the first time since December of 2013 that there will be a closed structure across the area.
“It took a lot of work to get here with railway approvals and what not…this will be the most significant visual event in the construction of this bridge.”
Spere adds they hope to have motorists using the bridge by late summer/early fall.
The bridge was closed two years ago after concerns were raised about its design being similar to a bridge that collapsed in Montreal.
