New St. Jacobs Farmer’s Market building opens

A new St. Jacobs Farmer’s Market opens to the public this morning.

The old building was destroyed in a fire during the Labour Day weekend in September 2013. Vendors had been using a temporary building until the new one was ready.

The Director of Market Operations says there are many similarities from the old building to the new building.

Sheila Shantz says the grand wooden staircases that were in the old building are in the new one. She says
there’s also a lot of wood and the big post and beams structure.

The new building also includes a sprinkler system, should a fire happen again. There are also elevators and wider aisles to give the building a more modern and open look.
