12:00 PM – Mayfair update

It’s not clear when work will begin to demolish the former Mayfair Hotel in downtown Kitchener. While city council has approved bringing in the wrecking ball, a demolition permit has not yet been issued. An official with the city tells 570 News, that can’t happen until after nearby gas lines have been relocated. That work is already underway by Kitchener Utilities. The reason for that is vibration control. The Mayfair was deemed unsafe by two experts earlier this month after a water main break and flood. The President of the Architectural Conservancy Ontario — North Waterloo Region, is not giving up without a fight. Kae Elgie joins us once again to share her next steps, including accessing the Blackwell engineering report from Kitchener City Hall, under Freedom of Information rules.

A petition is circulating – started by the Ontario NDP. It’s says privatizing hydro one is another wrong choice – where you pay the price. According to the website, “Kathleen Wynne is selling off Hydro One to pay for costly Liberal scandals, bad choices and bad decisions. If her government goes through with privatizing Hydro, it will come at a high price for Ontario families.” You can find the petition at youpaytheprice.ca
