Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro issues warning about phone scam

A warning from Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro about an ongoing phone scam.
Officials say small business owners in the downtown core are being targeted.
They say customers have received calls posing as Kitchener Wilmot Hydro’s Billing and Collections Department,who claim the account is overdue and the power will be disconnected if wire transfer or pre-paid credit card payments aren’t made.
The calls have come from various toll-free numbers and often leave customers with fake employee ID numbers disconnection serial number and call-back number.
Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro says they would never request payment over the phone via pre-paid credit cards or wire transfer.
