10:00 – Harper’s Anti-Terror Act, Bill C-51 Rally

A call out to local residents, who would like to gather publically and voice their opposition to Harper’s Anti-Terror Act, Bill C-51. People are welcome to meet up at Kitchener City Hall tomorrow at 12pm. The rally is Co-sponsored by the Alliance Against Poverty – and the group is encouraging people to rally, march, talk to locals or plan direct action. This is part of the National Day of Action against Bill C-51 and will be taking place all over the country.

NDP LGBTQ critic Cheri DiNovo has introduced new legislation to protect youth from therapy aimed at preventing them from growing up to be LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual or queer). She was inspired to introduce this by the tragic suicide of Ohio trans teen Leelah Alcorn. Her suicide note explained how her parents rejected her, and then took her to therapists who rejected her – therapists who tried to ‘fix’ her,” “Alcorn’s final words were, ‘Fix society. Please.’ The ‘Affirming Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Act’ will affirm the self-identified sexual orientation and gender identity of youth. The bill would prevent any attempt to change or direct the sexual orientation or the gender identity of patients and prohibits such efforts from being an insured service covered by OHIP. Kitchener Waterloo MPP, Catherine Fife has introduced a petition on the same topic – ending OHIP funding for so-called “conversion” therapy of LGBT youth.
