11:00 – International Women’s Day
Karen Redman, Host, Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast & CEO habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region and Regional Councillor
A number of local events today in advance of International Women’s Day coming up on Sunday. Later this afternoon, there is the Zonta Club’s 3rd Annual “Join us on the bridge” event. It runs from 5 until 6 at the Bridge Street and Lancaster Road bridge in Kitchener and is aimed at drawing attention to violence against women and girls. Earlier this morning, The Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast was held at Bingemans from 7 until 9. The Guest speaker was Anne Miner, best-selling author and host of the TV show ‘Women of Courage.’ Karen Redman has been involved with this event for years and joins us now.

Pat Singleton, Executive Director, Cambridge Self Help Food Bank
A fundraiser is underway this morning to help the Cambridge Food Bank on its 30th anniversary. Pat Singleton is sitting at City Hall for 30 hours, in a Giant Hat! The Executive Director of the Cambridge Food bank says their financial goal is 30-thousand dollars – and she’ll be staying there for another 28 hours (started at 9 AM) You can stay updated through their twitter account: @CambFoodBank.
11:30 – Use of Force Report

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board released their annual report on Use of Force statistics earlier this week – it shows that Police used force in 220 cases last year. That’s down from the year before – which was 253. Officers always try to diffuse a situation by talking before drawing a weapon. 2014 also saw fewer arrests than the previous year. There were just under 1200 (11, 924) arrests by Regional Officers. Guns were drawn 114 times but not fired, Tasers were discharged 26 times and pepper spray was used 8 cases.
