International Hackathon underway at U-W

An international hackathon is being held at the University of Waterloo starting today.
Participants in the event called “Hack the North” have 36 hours to create a unique and innovative product.
Valentin Tsatskin with Hack the North tells 570 News what hacking is all about.
“The idea is you can build absolutely anything. Generally, there is a lot software related things being built, we do electronic components, and people do actually build physical things…it’s all about what you want to accomplish.”
He adds “hacking” doesn’t have to been seen as a negative thing.
“Being really curious and building things and taking them apart to figure out how they work…hacking does not mean breaking into things without authorization.”
Around 1000 students will participate in the event which is completely student-run.
