More people working/living in downtown Kitchener

The City of Kitchener’s intensification plans for the downtown appear to be working. 

The planning department has released new figures showing between June of 2013 and June of this year, about 1,300 more jobs moved into the core.

Rod Regier is the Executive Director of Economic Development with Kitchener was a guest on 570’s Midday Show and says the downtown core is a dynamic place for businesses to grow.

“Our city is changing quickly right now and changing very positively. People in creative industries like the technology community, financial services community and so on are find this a great place to live and work. They want to be downtown because of the diversity and the quality of working life they have down here (downtown).”

The city says more people are also calling downtown Kitchener home.

It estimates there are now 167 people and jobs per hectare in the downtown, as compared to 155 a year earlier.
