June & July: a tale of two summers

July was wet – but not overly warm.
166 mm of rain fell last month, making it the fifth wettest July in the past 100 years.
However, we didn’t even make it to 30 degrees – with just one day in June reaching that temperature.
University of Waterloo Weather station coordinator, Frank Seglenieks calls it ‘a tale of two summers.’
“We had June that was above average by about 1.5 degrees and July was below average by about 1.5 degrees. If you flip them around, we pretty much had July’s temperatures in June and June’s temperatures in July.”
The average temperature in July is 26 degrees; this year we held steady at 23.9
Meantime, into August – the area had almost 60 mm of rain fall between 3:30-4:30 Saturday afternoon – which he calls a ‘significant event.’
Seglenieks is expecting average temperatures for the next week or so.
