Preview of Cambridge Post Office restoration

Residents of Cambridge will have a chance to look at and talk about a new design proposed for the restoration of the Old Post Office in the city.
In a public meeting tonight, the public can view a 3D tour of what the post office could look like after a $12 million dollar restoration.
The project will not be complete until 2016, and would include doubling the current building’s size, a teen space, reading area, a restaurant and an outdoor terrace overlooking the Grand River.
“We’ll have applications into the federal grant build Canada, and we have a private investor in terms of a restaurateur that will be coming into the building” says Cambridge Mayor, Doug Craig. “These are the people that own the Cambridge Mill, and they will be paying part of the cost for that part of the building.”
RDH Architects specialize in old buildings and they have been brought in to maintain the heritage feel of the building.
“They have developed a master plan that has been okayed by the Heritage Community in Cambridge” adds Craig. “When we rebuild the new parts onto this building, we have to keep in mind all the time, the points that have been made in the Heritage master plan.”
The meeting will take place inside the Cambridge council chambers tonight from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
