Mayor Rob Ford facing criticism from some councillors after his return

Some councillors at Toronto city hall are criticizing Mayor Rob Ford’s return

Ford came back yesterday from two months of rehab and apologized to those hurt by his words and actions, saying he regretted some of his past choices but that he blamed no one but himself for his misconduct.

His statement was also angled at his re-election bid, including mentions of what Ford considers his big political wins — something one local politician took umbrage with.

Councillor John Filion says it was “unfortunate” Ford veered into campaign mode, adding the mayor should have ended his speech after apologizing.

And another councillor, Kristyn Wong-Tam, says Ford is “irresponsible” because he didn’t say sorry to all the groups he’s offended.

Meanwhile, Ford mayoral rival John Tory called Ford’s speech unimpressive and said the mayor should resign.

In comments running almost 20 minutes, Ford heaped praise on the rehabilitation facility for saving his life and forcing him to “confront his personal demons.”

Ford’s role as mayor has been largely symbolic since November, when city council stripped him of most of his power.
