Ottawa allocates $4 million for community projects as part of conservation plan

HALIFAX – The federal government has allocated more than $4 million for projects across the country as part of its plan to conserve and restore Canadian lands and waters.
Environment Minister Leona Aglukkaq says the funding will support 85 community projects, which must relate to climate change, nature or clean air and water.
Aglukkaq says the projects are key pillars in the government’s five-year, $252 million conservation plan announced last week.
Ottawa has said about $100 million of that will go to the Nature Conservancy of Canada to secure ecologically sensitive lands, while $37 million will fund marine and coastal conservation.
The government said $3.2 million will go toward a national inventory of conserved areas, while $50 million would fund the restoration of wetlands.
