Staff cuts at Grand River Hospital

Grand River Hospital is making changes as it strives to balance the books for the 2014/2015 fiscal year.The Director of Communications, Mark Karjaluoto tells 570 News that four associate Vice President positions will be discontinued.
That will lead to a savings of about 450-thousand dollars.
The other change involves 10 restorative care beds.
“They’ve allowed us to help provide care for patients who are nearing the end of their hospital stay. Now as additional community services and long-term care beds have come online, those beds are not needed.”
Karjaluoto says the changes are necessary due to lower than planned patient volume and lower than expected revenue.
He adds that while they are planning on a balanced budget, “a lot is dependent on the provincial budget and our funding letter so we need more information there.”
