11:00am- Dr. Liana Nolan, Medical Officer of Health for Waterloo Region
TOPIC: Nolan just got back from Boston today, where she was participating in the Boston Marathon again this year. Nolan was also in the city a year ago when a pair of bombs exploded, near the finish line, killing 3 people and injuring another 260. She talks about her experience last year and some of the differences she saw during this years’ 118th edition of the Marathon.
11:15am- How Air Canada Handles Your Baggage?
TOPIC: Two Air Canada baggage handlers set to lose their jobs over a video showing bags being dropped several metres into a bin on the ground. Bill Trbovich, a spokesman for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, said when there’s no more room for carry-on luggage inside a plane, handlers are forced to take the rest outside in a rush to be stowed elsewhere so the flight isn’t delayed. But the stairs up to the plane are so steep, it would be dangerous to hurry down, Trbovich said.

TOPIC: The provincial government is implementing changes they say will better regulate Ontario’s tow truck and vehicle storage industry, while protecting consumers from being ripped off by unscrupulous operators and help reduce insurance fraud. Consumer Services Minister Tracy MacCharles says she’s heard numerous horror stories that victims have had demands for hundreds of dollars in cash before the service was even provided, inflated prices, etc. Other drivers involved in accidents find their vehicles are towed far away to a storage facility. The Liberals promise legislation would force tow truck operators to get permission from a driver before charging for towing and storage services, post their prices and provide an itemized invoice detailing all charges and the total cost. It would also force operators to publicly post the driver’s name and contact information and mandate that they accept credit cards, not just cash.
