St. Mary’s gastrointestinal outbreak over

The gastrointestinal outbreak at St Mary’s General Hospital is over, and visitor restrictions have been lifted.

Six patients in total, and seven staff members, were affected by the outbreak of vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Two are believed to have been admitted with the illness, the other four caught it in hospital.

All patients have either recovered or are on their way to recovery.

Vice-President Patient Services and Chief Nursing Executive Sandra Hett says, in a release, she is thankful for “community members respecting the visiting restrictions and their continued use of good judgement when visiting.”

The outbreak was declared a week ago on April 14.

570’s Kathlene Campbell-Conlon spoke with Sandra Hett moments after the outbreak was ended.
