Emergency sirens tested in Woolwich Township tonight

Residents in Woolwich Township should NOT be alarmed when they hear emergency alert sirens tonight.
As Communications Coordinator, Devin Petteplace tells 570 News – it’s part of an expansion of the Community Alert Network.
“We are expanding our emergency sirens services. Right now we have it in Elmira, and it’s been in Elmira for the past number of years. In an effort to expand our program, we’ve put it into the other two major settlements in the township, which are Breslau and St. Jacob’s.”
Tonight at 7 PM, both the Breslau and St. Jacobs Fire stations will be testing the sirens for about 15-30 seconds during their regular training sessions.
The sirens are used to alert residents to potential or real emergencies such as major fires, chemical releases, or severe weather events.
This is then followed up by a direct message to their home or cell phone.
