OPP remind motorists to “Share the Road”

We’re finally starting to get some consistently warmer temperatures, which has motorcycle enthusiasts raring to go.
But just because the snow has melted, it doesn’t mean it’s motorcycle weather.
OPP Sergeant Dave Rektor tells 570’s Gary Doyle show this is not the best time to be out on your bike, “One of the main reasons why is there’s still a lot of debris on the roadway, there’s sand, there’s salt, rocks, pebbles, all the stuff, which makes driving a bike really hazardous and hard to stop and hard to turn. So it’s better wait until late in the spring before you get that bike out.”
Rektor says they’re already dealing with crashes involving motorcycles, “And the season isn’t officially underway yet. The bikes are out there, so we need car drivers to look for bike riders and we need the bike operators to be driving safe and attentive at all times.”
He also says all the potholes and uneven road surfaces add to the dangers of being on a motorcycle at this time of year.
