Road to Pan Am Games comes through Kitchener

The Kitchener-Waterloo Gymnastics Club is playing host the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Third Provincial Qualifier.
Competition gets underway this afternoon at the KW Gymnastics Club located on 805 Victoria St. South in Kitchener, with over 400 male athletes expected to compete.
“The age groups range”, said Mark Herman, President of the KW Gymnastics Club. “We’ve got athletes that are going to be looking to compete at the Pan Am Games. And we have athletes that are just new to gymnastics that are working on their skills.”
Over three days athletes will compete in six routines: floor exercises, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and the horizontal bar.
Herman says some athletes may get an opportunity to head to the provincials in Windsor.
“After the provincials in Windsor, they either compete or they’re selected to the National Team and they’ll be able to compete at national events. From the National Team they chose the Pan Am and Olympic Games.”
The provincials are being held in Windsor in April. The 2015 Pan Am are in Toronto and the Olympics are set to go in Brazil in 2016.
