OPP to wrap up distracted driving blitz

An OPP blitz targeting distracted drivers wraps up today.

Police say distracted driving has surpassed drunk driving as the number one killer on the roads, taking 78 lives in the province last year in OPP patrolled areas.

This crackdown comes in advance of a fine increase for distracted driving.

Starting on Tuesday, it will rise from $150 to $280.

Last year, the OPP handed out 19-thousand tickets for driving while distracted.
