GRCA concerned how all the snow and ice will impact spring melt

We are not expecting any real warm up for at least a few more days, but when it does come, concerns about flooding will be ratcheted up.

Even before yesterday’s snowfall, the Grand River Conservation Authority warned of a high risk of flooding. It says the snow pack is higher than it’s been in about 30 years.

GRCA Manager of Communications, Dave Schultz tells 570 News, water levels are pretty much normal, but all the snow and ice is reason for concern.

He says most of the waterways in the watershed are close to completely iced over, including the Grand, Nith and Conestogo Rivers.

The GRCA says it will closely monitor areas that are prone to ice jam flooding, including West Montrose, New Hamburg, Ayr and Paris.
