Rainbow flag will fly digitally on Kitchener’s City Hall Cube

The City of Kitchener will digitally display the rainbow and Canadian flags on the Cube at City Hall, to raise awareness of human and civil rights issues lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and queer athletes are facing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The Cube, the box on top of city hall that digitally airs art starting at dusk each night, will display both flags starting Tuesday night until the end of the Olympics.
This is in response to backlash the city received from originally flying the rainbow flag inside, not outside, City Hall.
The City says, in a release, that flying the rainbow flag outside would violate a flag protocol policy only allowing the Canadian, provincial and city flags to fly outside on poles.
A flag currently stands on a flagpole inside the Rotunda at Kitchener City Hall in a prominent location.
tri-Pride Community Association President Sasa Kahrimanovic is quoted “it is now clear that we stand together in support of our LGBTQ athletes and awareness of social justice for the LGBTQ community of Russia.”
