Opening ceremonies @ Olympics to begin at 11am

Starting today, the international spotlight will be on Sochi on Russia’s Black Sea coast.

The opening ceremonies for the Winter Olympics is set for 11 a-m our time.

More than 28-hundred athletes will compete in 98 events.

Canada has sent 220 athletes, a record high for any Winter Games. Hailey Wickenheiser will be Canada’s flag bearer.

It’s costing Russia an estimated 50-billion dollars to put on the games, which last 16 days.

Kitchener snowboarder Jenna Blasman started her Olympics on Thursday. She advanced to Sunday’s semi-finals in slopestyle.
