While the debate is often framed as a tug-of-war between women’s career ambitions and their desire to be involved mothers, plenty of evidence suggests it’s not the act of having children that hurts women’s careers, but family-friendly workplace policies-in particular, the year-long maternity leave that has become one of the most prized benefits offered to working mothers in Canada. Are parents stalling their professional growth when they use their hard-earned benefits as an opportunity to completely shut themselves off from work?
11:30am- Nancy King, Reporter at Cape Breton Post, Re: Parents of a Nova Scotian woman killed by a drunk driver are campaigning to prevent the convicted felon from buying alcohol. The driver is now subject to a strict 22-condition recognizance that prohibits him from consuming alcohol. The lawyer for the parents, has written to the Nova Scotia Liquor Corp., which has a monopoly on the sale of alcohol in the province, and licensing bodies the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board and the Alcohol and Gaming Division of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, calling for the distribution of his name and photo to each retail outlet and licensee in the province.
