Expert discusses potential impact of LRT

The debate continues in several cities surrounding the potential impact of light rail transit.
Dr. Dawn Parker is a Professor in the Faculty of Environment at University of Waterloo and also a lead researcher on a project that is exploring how the LRT may affect land markets and transportation in the Region.
She tells 570’s Gary Doyle show that property value around the LRT line may increase as “being near LRT will cut down a lot of people’s transportation costs.”
Dr. Parker adds, “there will be an efficiency improvement in the long run that will make for a less congested community but it certainly also depends on what happens with the employment picture and growth policies and challenges to those.”
Dr. Parker says this would be an ideal location for young professionals who want to be closer to work but also for empty nesters who wish to downsize and still be near the urban core.
