Garbage collection could see some changes here in Waterloo Region.
With the landfill expected to be full in 16-20 years, Regional council is looking to cut down on waste.
One of the proposed options includes bi-weekly garbage collection.
Regional councillor Sean Strickland tells 570 News if they go with this plan, they hope residents would use their green bins more often.
“It certainly would give people strong motivation to use their green bin more because they don’t want have that food waste sitting in their garbage in the garage.”
Another option includes a $2 fee per bag or a limitation on the number of bags collected.
The Region won’t have a final decision until 2014, with the changes themselves not coming into effect until 2016.
Strickland says they will be looking for public feedback on what would be the best way to proceed.
