Cambridge limits amount of cats people can own

Cambridge has decided that a resident can own no more then five cats.

The city revised its animal control by-law at Monday night’s council meeting, along with several other animal restrictions.

Cat owners can have more than five if any of the cats are under the age of 16 weeks old.

Bonnie Deacon with the Cambridge Humane Society told council that if someone had six or seven cats but they were well cared for and no one had complained then they wouldn’t be showing up at the door to investigate.

Snakes from around the world will be allowed in Cambridge but they have to be two metres or under in length.

Mayor Doug Craig says they just want to make sure they are doing what is right for its people and pet residents.

The changes go into effect on January 1st.
