Kitchener’s iconic Walper Hotel is in for a multi-million dollar facelift.
Perimeter Development Corporation has officially announced it is part of a group that has acquired the historic building in the downtown.
The deal closed late last month.
In a statement posted on its website, Perimeter says, “this new group is committed to continuing the successful rejuvenation of the hotel and in the near future will begin work on formulating a design vision to continue the repositioning of the hotel to be a vibrant and exciting destination in Waterloo Region.”
The Record reports, plans include spending up to $3.5-million to convert the building at King and Queen Streets into an upscale boutique facility.
The new owners stress, there are no plans to change the name of the building and they want to ensure they keep the best of the past while looking to the future.
