TORONTO – Public health officials and the Canadian National Exhibition have shut down two food booths due to food safety infractions, the CNE said Wednesday.
Bourbon Street Grill and Bao 360 Shanghai Express — both operated by Innovated Restaurant Group in the CNE Food Building — were shut down Tuesday and will remain closed for the remainder of the fair, the CNE said.
The fair said the booths were also in breach of CNE contract rules and regulations.
“We continue to be vigilant with our multi-tiered approach to food safety, which includes working closely with Toronto Public Health and our own food safety consultants,” CNE GM David Bednar said.
“Our approach to this issue, as with other general issues of safety, leaves no room for compromise.”
On Tuesday, Toronto Public Health said lab results revealed that maple bacon jam — a component of the Cronut Burger — was to blame for more than 79 cases of food-borne illness at the CNE.
As of Tuesday morning, the agency said it received 223 reports from patrons who experienced gastrointestinal symptoms after eating at the CNE from Aug. 16 to Aug. 20.
