Rumpel Felt building may be part of transit hub

The Old factory on Victoria Street North in Kitchener is being considered a heritage building. The Rumpel Felt building is located where the city is planing on building a new transit hub. Coordinator of Cultural Heritage Planning with the City of Kitchener, Leon Bensason tells 570’s Gary Doyle show, they want to incorporate the building with the new transit station.

“The important thing is when plans do come in for that transit centre, then it enables us to require what’s called a conservation plan. Which is going to be a study to determine how the Rumpel Felt building can be a part of that development and continue to be a part of our community,” said Bensason.

A building must fall under at least 1 of 3 criterias to be named a heritage property. The Rumpel Felt building meets all 3 criterias. The transit station is for light rail trains, Grand River Transit buses, GO and VIA trains and intercity bus lines.
